Two Cents Tuesday: How do I Teach My Dog to Roll Over?
My dog Ellie isn’t the smartest pooch, still has yet to figure out that she’s supposed to chase a ball when I throw it, not just give it a glance and go back to eating grass.. but she has a few tricks up her furry paws.
When my pup wants a treat, she’s sure to give you both paws to shake and she’ll even speak for you. My mom is convinced she says “I love you,” or, “Ri Ruh Roo” when she does. In addition, my dog is smart about not letting you enjoy any computer time on the couch as she will repeatedly nudge her nose up into your wrist as you type, and if she still hasn’t gotten you to stop, she’ll paw at the keyboard. If you yell at her in response, she just proceeds to give you sad puppy eyes and you realize, despite your efforts, you’ve lost the war.
But there’s one thing my Ellie has never been successful at- ROLLING OVER! So I thought I would check out how trainers get dogs to do this cool trick. I haven’t given it a go on my own dog yet, but I’ll let you know how it goes if I get around to it this week. Or hey, I’d love to see some of your attempts on video or via fun photos, just leave them as a comment on this page! 🙂
What you’ll need:

-Delicious dog treats your dog doesn’t usually have (to get your pup extra excited about the training event)
